Hello Everybody!

The Mission of My FIRST HQ

During it’s existence, the FIRST community has had many ways of communicating and interacting. However despite this, there is yet to be a site that captures the sense of community that is vital to FIRST in a fully featured social networking site. Make no mistake, this site is not another facebook or myspace, but rather a way for all FIRST enthusiasts around the world to communicate with each other on a level never before paralleled in the FIRST community.

ALPHA Testing

This site is still very new. That being said, it still has many bugs and a lot of room for improvement. So please do everyone a favor, by using this site thouroughly and letting me know if you see anything wrong or think of any possible improvements. I’d love to heard anything you have to say-honest. You can talk to me, by either PMing me, emailing me, contacting me on my profile page, or by the FIRST group forums, as soon as they are up. Remember, this site is yours and the community of FIRST in general. This site will become what you want it to become.

Features

Your Own Blog

Get your own blog and your own custom address, just by signing up to the FIRST HQ network. This site is built off of wordpress, so you get all of the great tools that wordpress is famous for. Plus, you get full control of your blog including theme and plug-in choice.

Extended Profiles

All users on this site can have an advanced profile to let other people in the FIRST community get to know them better. This can include the necessities like name, team number, etc., or be trivial.

Private Messaging

My FIRST HQ basically has it’s own internal email system. This allows anyone in the FIRST community to easily contact anyone else, in a secure environment without having to find out their email address.

Friends

The friends system allows community members to build relations with people they already know further and build entirely new relations with others. The friends system helps create the desired networked community of this site. It can also help show people relationship webs throughout the ocmmunity.

Groups

Any member of the community can create a group about anything. In the group, you can communicate with other members of the group by forums and wire. This allows the ability of community members to create sub-groups within the larger FIRST HQ community. Groups can be open to anyone, restricted to invite only, or even hidden. If you choose one of the latter two options, anything you say within the group’s walls are secure from everyone else. Individual teams are encouraged to create a specific group for just members of their team. This is a good method of online team communication.

The Wire

The wire is kind of like a simplified message board. Anybody can add a comment. The wire is primarily at the bottom of people’s profiles. Write on your own wall as a form of micro-blogging. You can also write on other people’s wires if you befriend them.

Activity Streams

The activity stream records every major thing you did, like writing on a wire or joining a group. It is a way of letting everyone know what everyone is doing.

Blog Tracking

This allows you to track all other blogs and for it to be summarized for you.

Forums

Make no mistake, go to chiefdelphi.com if you just want a forum. The purpose of this site is not to be a forum. However there are forums inside groups. These forums allow people inside a group to efficiently communicate without anyone being able to see it that they don’t want to. Individual teams are encouraged to create an invitation-only group and then use the forums as a personal private team forum system.

Well that’s it for now. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below!
